FOSI Snow &
Ice WORKSHOPS |
|
Community Winter Art: FOSI’s primary goals are to enrich, develop, demonstrate, and
sustain the cultural life of winter art in New York State. We will achieve this through involving local and regional artists
and other interested individuals, but also constituents at large and
tourists, in small to medium sized communities.
|
|
Community Responsibilities: The HOSTING Community is
responsible for the Artists Fees, Event setup and execution costs,
Lodging & Meals for the artists and staff, in addition to Site Event
Insurance, Forms, and Materials, Snow, Ice, & Staff to build snow
blocks or erect Ice blocks & Workshop Advertising Costs for the
event. For the workshop to be effective local (art) Adults or
Teachers must participate to help children and new participants the
following years. |
|
Grants: Grants are available thru
the NYS Council of the Arts Decentralization Program administer
locally to your community by your local arts council.
Application Deadline is usually Sept 1, the year before the workshop
is scheduled. The community representative must attend
Seminars to receive applications for the grant. FOSI will
assist the applicant with our information to help obtain the grant
for the workshop.
If the grant does not happen or cover FOSI's total cost for the workshop
The
Community is responsible for the fees or remainder of the fees. |
|
Growth of
Tourism: Northern NY region experiences the
State’s mildest winter season and usually the smallest snowfall.
FOSI’s Exhibition/Workshops will create skills for residents to make
not just athletic but cultural use of these climatic opportunities.
These types of events may directly affect the growth of tourism
during a financial depressed period.
Our Exhibition/Workshops try to entice tourism into the community
and enhance the economic growth for a short time period in that
community at a time when the local economy is at the lowest point
during the winter season.
|
|
Historic Exhibitions: FOSI will
provide Photo Exhibitions of historic Ice and Snow Sculptures from
Olympic, International, National, and State competitions of 1988 to
present day during the Workshop days |
|
KEY ADMINISTRATIVE PERSONNEL:
An experienced team, fine-tuned in the last 9 winter seasons will
provide Administration of the Event. |
|
KEY ARTISTIC PERSONNEL:
The teaching artists will be composed of professional experienced
artists. Some teams have won previous state championships,
national and international prizes including Olympic Arts Festival
awards. |
|
Local Artists and Art Organizations:
The
Exhibition/Workshops will also serve local artists and art
organizations in NY communities. We encourage and foster
communication and interaction between regional artists and these
communities. |
|
Partnership: FOSI provides an event
that fosters and combines the talent and resources of the
communities, their service clubs, businesses, civil agencies, and
community individuals to work in partnership in the preparation,
production, and post-completion care of our snow sculptures. |
|
Public Awareness: The
Exhibition/Workshops will provide cultural entertainment and enhance
public awareness to the value of a creative arts environment for
both residents and visitors.
We develop creative ideas for sculpture themes with and for our
workshop students. Common construction and gardening tools are used
in conjunction with unique tools designed specifically for this
cultural activity and will be on display and in use by the artists
and their workshop students. |
|
Public Participation: If the Hosting
Community wishes to have some pre advanced registration that is
fine, but FOSI requires no pre-registration before the date of the
workshop for participation by the public. No Fees are charged to
the public for participation. The General public is asked to
partake with hands on instruction and full use of tools on the
medium. |
